Description
The Redhat Society is an Internet based community for older women that take a light hearted approach to life. The Web site enables like minded individuals to find companionship and to participate in group activities. This group required a means to coordinate their membership process and for the public to find out about chapters in their geographic area. There are currently 30,000+ active members. The solutions I helped provide include:
  • Database design to efficiently store all relevant details, including those about chapters, members, and orders.
  • Search for a chapter, including a zip code proximity option.
  • A sign on and authentication system to identify a current user and their access within the Web site.
  • Content management to offer past archives of various newsletters.
  • Ordering processing, including online credit card transaction processing.
  • Accomplished an organization shift from chapters (in which one leader registers and coordinates activities for a group) to a member focus in which all members from all chapters must manage their own membership. This required importing records into the revised table structure and rebuilding all associated Web site elements.

Take a Tour   iGrants Programming Methods

Description
The Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is the cental coordinating agency for all Districts in the state of Washington. Millions of dollars of Federal and State grant money needs to be allocated to these Districts. A Web site was needed to provide the tools by which the Districts could apply for grant money and provide the details needed for allocation purposes. An administrative site was also needed to review the requests and to perform the allocations based on the District data. Additional functionality to review how the allocated monies were utilized was also of primary concern.
  • Kuwago Inc was able to provide detailed analysis of the business functions and to suggest a means by which a Web site could address all of the stated functionality.
  • Code was migrated from a Lasso and FileMaker solution to ASP.Net using C#.
  • Built an online system for completing and approving grants online.
  • A unique strategy for building forms dynamically had to be devised. This function was dubbed "FormBase" during the project's development. FormBase is a complex tool that allows for a generic set of tables to store a user's responses to questions on various forms. FormBase included a editing environment for designing forms as well as the tools that created the HTML for a form based completely on table driven data.
  • A total of 87 parts for 38 forms were part of the initial release, however the system allowed for non-technical administrative staff to add new forms without much complication.
  • Devised a process for tracking the progress of an application from initial creation on the user's end up to final approval by District Administrators.
  • A process to exchange Budget data with a legacy Cobol system allows for the user's of the system to provide raw data that the Administrators in the finance division could draw upon to electronically derive budget requests. The budget could then be approved and returned to the system.

Description
The purpose of the WebApps Web site is the same as is described above. This project was the initial few years effort using a different set of technologies. WebApps was a pioneer grant application system. Both in Washington State as well as in the rest of the nation. Senator Edward Kennedy once hailed WebApps specifically on the U.S. Senate floor when he called for more efficient government systems that utilized new technologies, such as those offered by the Internet.
